Characterization of biocompatibility of polymers with different structures
Novel polymers with different structures were prepared in the first Mentor-Student program of MedInProt. One type of those was applied for surface modification of drug delivery nanoparticles. The polyhydroxyl branched macromolecules were able to provide steric stability of the system, the potential of further coupling and satisfactory biocompatibility due to low aspecific protein adsorption. The other type of polymers was PVC with grafted PEO chains of different length and grafting density. The aim was to find the structure with optimum properties for the biomedical application. Relative surface hydrophilicity was determined by wettability measurements while protein adsorption was compared as well.
